NETHERPLACE ROAD

Newton Mearns

The concept of retirement communities in Scotland is still in its infancy, with examples in England still eclipsed by the development of Communities in North America and Australia. In the UK only 0.6% of people over 65 live in retirement communities: in the USA this figure is 6.1%. J&W have pioneered research into Retirement Communities and the provision of residential accommodation to enable people to “age in place” and to remain in their homes with dementia.

The site at Netherplace Road enabled the incorporation of the research and ideas to manifest in a proposal for 230No. flats, all larger than mainstream residential properties, also including useable balconies, with terraced cottages and a Village Hub containing care & support facilities, a bar, restaurant, wellness suite, multi-purpose spaces, shop, beauty salon, library and creche.
